Frequently Asked Questions
Do your offer sliding scale or rate reduction?
Yes, I offer limited spots for sliding scale or rate reduction. I recognize that therapy is a financial investment and would be happy to have discussions about fees with the possibility of offering rate reduction in applicable situations.
Are your fees covered by OHIP or extended health benefits?
While psychotherapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario, it is unfortunately not covered under OHIP, OW or ODSP.
Most extended health benefits do cover psychotherapy services (typically in your health and dental insurance package from your employer). I encourage you to speak with your insurance provider about counselling services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage. I do not reimburse completed session fees if it turns out you do not have coverage.
Do you do direct billing to my insurance company?
No, unfortunately I do not do direct billing to insurance. I provide receipts with my license number and practice information that can be submitted for reimbursement.
Do I need a referral to see a Psychotherapist?
No, you donโt. You are welcome to reach out directly to schedule an appointment.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you cannot make an appointment, please let me know 48 hours prior to your scheduled time. The full fee will be charged for late cancellations or missed appointments.
How long does therapy last?
Each therapy session lasts 50 or 80 minutes depending on the session booked. The overall length of therapy depends on your personal goals and needs. It can take some time for you to get to know your therapist, and for your therapist to get to know you. On average, you can expect to see a therapist for at least 6-8 sessions to see considerable benefits and long-term changes.
What does a first session look like?
In the first session you will be asked questions related to what you hope to accomplish during therapy and how long you have been experiencing presenting difficulties. A brief assessment would be completed, which includes personal history collection with the intention of collaboratively creating a plan to form the foundation of our work together.
